doing things media

Apparel graphics for four brands, four completely different audiences. The job was making each one feel native — right humor, right aesthetic, nothing that looked like it came from outside.

/ overview

DTM runs some of the biggest social accounts on the internet and they know their audiences. They'd send direction — a prompt, a general vibe — and I'd figure out how to make it land as a wearable graphic. The hard part was the range. MCF is wine nights and suburban irony. Kook Slams is surf culture. Shithead Steve is stupid humor that doesn't announce itself. Four Twenty is weed jokes that don't need to try. Each one has a completely different definition of what 'this feels right' means. The piece I liked most was Slamantha for Kook Slams — a Barbie-box parody with a surfer wiping out that I drew in Procreate. That one had room to get weird.

"Christmas Calories Don't Count" — ugly sweater style, all type, knit-pattern border. MCF's audience already lives inside this sentiment. The graphic didn't need to be clever, it just had to look like something they'd actually wear.

"Slamantha" — a Barbie-box parody with a surfer wiping out. I drew this one in Procreate, which let me get the illustration loose and handmade rather than clean and polished. The Barbie angle was unexpected enough to feel right for an account that's entirely about watching people eat it. Favorite piece from the project.

"Make It Rein" — 8-bit ugly sweater with a reindeer on a pole, Santa, and a gingerbread man. Make it rain + reindeer. That's the whole joke. The 8-bit style kept it lo-fi and a little random, which is exactly the Shithead Steve register.

"Blaze of Glory" — retro sports badge, Olympic rings, weed leaf, "They Go Low We Get High." Clean and wearable without leaning on obvious visual cues. The audience gets it; you don't have to spell it out.

One graphic per brand, each judged on one thing: does it feel like the brand made it.
